Vikram Sarabhai was born on 12th August 1919 in Ahmedabad, Bombay and died on 30th December 1971 at the age of 52 years. Sarabhai was an innovator. He was an Indian scientist. His full name is Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai. Sarabhai was famously known as the Father of India’s space programme.
Vikram Sarabhai worked for so many distinguished positions. In 1962, he elected for Indian Science Congress as President of the Physics section. In 1970, President of the General Conference of the I.A.E.A., Vienna. In 1971, he elected as Vice-President for Fourth UN Conference on “Peaceful uses of Atomic Energy”.
Vikram Sarabhai started a project for the fabrication. For that result, in 1975, Aryabhata the India’s first Satellite was put in Orbit from a Russian Cosmo drome. On 11 November 1947, Vikram Sarabhai, founded the Physical Research Laboratory. This Laboratory is initially research on cosmic rays. Gradually expanded research on properties of the upper atmosphere, theoretical physics, radio physics.
In 1966, Sarabhai Honoured with Padma Bhushan and received Padma Vibhushan in 1972. In 1962, he got the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Medal. The “Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre” and the “Sarabhai Crater” are named in his memory. The first market research organization in the country, Operations Research Group was set up by him. The other Institutes NFD, IIMA, ATIRA and CEPT are also set up by him.
